Kisha pushed her cup a bit towards Jack in acceptance of the top off. Her tolerance for the stuff wasn't the best, but at the same time she wasn't a pushover. But if it would cause her trouble tonight she was not opposed. If nothing else she was honest when she was drunk.

"And you? What is the occasion of your visit here? Taking your business abroad?"

Kisha smirked a bit, lifting her cup "Not quite" she took a sip and sighed. "I was working when I accidentally managed to stow away on a ship. Said ship managed to bump into another one with more... piratical angles I suppose. And I've been there since. Captain's taken a bit of liking for me and offered me a place to stay. This is the first port we've hit and I'm in the process of deciding if I'm going to take it or not." Kisha wasn't as surprised by her honesty as she thought she would be. But after the secrets she already shared this issue was hardly difficult. What surprised Kisha more was how calm she was in the telling of it- as though the news was nothing new to anyone. Still a chord of unhappiness could be heard in her voice. Making up her mind was more difficult than she was going to let on.

Jack stared at his bottle and nodded to himself, processing the information. Somewhere in the back of his mind he was realising that this was a strange story and getting curious about the details, but that part of his mind was far, far away at the moment. Still, even if he had been sober, he probably wouldn't have asked for details; Kisha had let him keep the details of his problem to himself, and it held fair that he'd show her the same courtesy.

"There's a lot of competition here... but a lot of business as well."

He gave a little shrug, then drank some more rum. He really wasn't sure he could advise Kisha what to do. It was her choice, and she knew best; he knew the other side of her business much better than her side of it. And she knew more about -... What had her other option been again? Remembering it, Jack began to feel uncomfortable; that was dangerous. Even if Kisha generally knew what she was doing - it was.

"That captain... Are you sure you can trust him?"

Kisha just listened for a moment, looking at her cup and then to Jack again with a bit of a smirk. "Competition is the least of my worries Jack. Competition I can handle. I have other reasons for not wanting to stay here. The business here is very different from what I typically would be involved in. Its hard to explain but if you were a woman in my profession you'd know exactly what I'm talking about." She smiled a bit, possibly amused by that thought. "I'll leave it at that smaller communities make it possible for me to do my best work and this isn't my first time in Tortuga. Weighing the options I'd really rather not keep my business here." How to explain the delicate nuances of her profession? Even girls who'd been doing it for a shorter time wouldn't completely understand. It came down to the systematical way that Kisha worked. Regulars were a goldmine in this profession- richer patrons meant less work, and a cycle of the same men made keeping tabs on your health much easier. In Tortuga she'd be fighting it out for different sailors every night and it would take much more time for her to reach the position she had in Spain and Port Royal. There was less security in it and it was already a risky venture. Most girls perhaps didn't think that way when it came to the work, however most girls hadn't fallen into it quite like Kisha. Where she came from had a very large influence on how she allowed herself to function professionally.

"That captain... Are you sure you can trust him?"

"He's killed men on the ship for sake of my safety Jack. And he's left me to make my decision on my own. I think its safe to say that I don't have to worry about him. So long as he keeps a distance from my secrets anyway and that I have control over. At any rate it seems more controlled than the last time I was about on the ocean. I can't know for certain until I'm really stuck there though, and that's the part that gets me." It briefly occurred to Kisha that Jack had no idea about where she'd been before- but by her reference to Tortuga and this perhaps he'd put the pieces together. It wouldn't be her first time on a ship.

In Tortuga Kisha had every control over what happened to her. On that ship not so much, however it opened new possibilities. It was a chance to lay off whoring for a while anyway and that was always a nice option. Kisha realized now that it might well be an out. But did she want that? She enjoyed the independence she had, but on the other hand on a ship she would never go lonely. It was a difficult choice and oddly enough she was looking forward to getting Jack's opinion on it. Two minds, even drunk ones, are better than one.

Jack shrugged and nodded a bit, more or less conceding her point. He wasn't quite sure that he understood - he felt that he understood, and certainly he wanted to show that he understood, but what exactly it was that he understood was difficult to put into words, or even thoughts. He decided to leave it at that; he understood, and that was what mattered.

"He's killed men on the ship for sake of my safety Jack. And he's left me to make my decision on my own. I think its safe to say that I don't have to worry about him. "Yes..." Jack's eyes fell on his bottle - a pleasant surprise; he'd forgotten he still had some rum. Trying to look very wise, he began his lecture. "A captain is king on his own ship. If at some point he's going to expect more of you than you're willing to give him..." Jack lifted the bottle to his lips with one hand, while making what was meant to be a significant sweep with the other. "You'll be in trouble."

After taking a swig, he put the bottle on the table again, with another half-hearted shrug; he vaguely realised that he was probably not being as helpful as he could be and wanted to be, but he didn't know what else to say.

"I suppose you can always try it. But at the first sign of friction, lie low until you reach the next port, and then jump ship." Jack looked at her with a seriousness that would be discrepant with such drunkenness in anyone else, but didn't seem at all odd in him. "I mean it, love. You need to look after yourself. You may think you know that captain, but you never know anyone. Not really."

Kisha took the last bit of liquid from her own cup then smirked at Jack, some of that old playfulness caught in her eyes. "Well given my current form of employment there's not exactly a terrible lot that any man can ask for that I haven't already given at least once." Captain or not, Dante was still just a man in Kisha's eyes. And men she could handle.

"I suppose you can always try it. But at the first sign of friction, lie low until you reach the next port, and then jump ship. I mean it, love. You need to look after yourself. You may think you know that captain, but you never know anyone. Not really."

Kisha smiled. His seriousness and concern were comforting. "If anyone knows that Jack, its me." She did honestly. Who better to know you can't know people than someone who practiced self-deceit on such a frequent basis. No one knew Kisha really, Jack was as close as it got and even he was in the dark about most things. "And I'll tread carefully, you have my word on that. Honestly its not the first time I've had a situation similar to this, I suppose you could say. I wouldn't do it if I wasn't sure... and I wasn't until now anyway." Kisha reached a hand out and touched Jack's with a smile. "Thank you Jack. This little chat was just what I needed." Her touch and her look were sincere. She had her confidence back, and hopefully it wasn't just the rum talking. It was clear that she was going to be saying goodbye soon and take her chances on that ship. She would have to get back before they took off. Likely Jack had things to take care of as well.

Jack smiled at that, but not in the way Kisha had probably intended it; it was a sad, bitter smile. He knew that Kisha must have gone through a lot in her profession, but in Jack's opinion (which was, it must be said, slightly biased) sex wasn't the worst thing that could happen to a person. There were floggings and all sorts of torture; brandings - Jack's arm started itching at the memory, but he refused to give it any attention, taking a good swig of rum instead. He doubted Kisha had ever been subjected to anything of the sort, and while she might be able to keep any decent person from doing such things to her by playing on her femininity, what decent person tortured anyway? Even if she wouldn't heed him, even if she thought she could handle whatever happened to her, he needed to warn her.

"If anyone knows that Jack, its me. And I'll tread carefully, you have my word on that. Honestly its not the first time I've had a situation similar to this, I suppose you could say. I wouldn't do it if I wasn't sure... and I wasn't until now anyway."

She touched his hand and he looked at her, his eyes briefly sad and pleading, though why and for what he wasn't sure. She was leaving, and he would miss her.

"Thank you Jack. This little chat was just what I needed."

"You're welcome."

He smiled, sincerely now, in recognition of her gratitude and friendship. But he wished she wouldn't go. It was nice, being around her again. He offered her more rum; maybe that would keep her around a little longer.
Maybe he should go to this ship with her and see it for himself.

Kemal sat on a barrel, out side the tavern. Taking a last bite of an apple he had allegedly bought, before throwing it into a nearby pit. His patience – the little he had – where wearing thin. His personal business was done and he wanted to get out of this rat hole. What is taking this girl so long...

Irritated to the almost point of becoming uncharacteristically vocal, of course he restrained him self, sort of. He rose to his feet and strode towards the tavern door bursting it open with an unnecessary amount of force. Catching the attention of any one not not intoxicated, which happened to be three people.

Taverns and brothels the two things Kemal despised, not only was this particular port filled with a variety of each, he now was in one, quiet discomforting. Rum ruined blood, made a strong man weak and a weak man a pathetic fool. Or so was his personal thinking at least. As for brothels, loners, widowers, people unsuccessful in wooing a suitable partner, people of weak will and no dignity.

Taking only a few strides into the tavern, which brought him to the counter, sparsely occupied by a few sailors, pirates most likely. Rejecting an offer of ale from one of the tenders he began scanning for Kisha, quickly finding her, seeing she was the only gal not sitting on another mans lap. Strange, was the man she was sitting across from though, quiet an animated fellow. Taking a seat at the counter he resumed his vigilant task of waiting.

((Sorry its so short! I wasn’t quite sure where else to go with it ))

Kisha could see that Jack was a little on the blue side. Even so it was just one more goodbye. Kisha was always glad to see Jack and always sad to see him go. This time however it was her turn to do the leaving. In a way though she had a feeling she’d see him again. They were perhaps too alike for her to think otherwise.

At the offer for more run Kisha shook her head. The rum had mellowed her out a bit and any more would have her getting dizzy. That was hardly a state for her to be in if she was going to go back to the ship and talk with Dante. “I should get going .” She got to her feet and leaned on the table a bit, her lips forming that old mischievous smile Jack was well acquainted with. “Don’t suppose a girl could convince you to walk her to port hmm?” If nothing else Kisha was hoping to enjoy Jack’s company a little longer. But she was also hoping to leave on a good note and cheer him up at least a little. Jack had plenty of things to be worrying about and Kisha didn’t want to be another thing on the list.

Of course Kisha had thing she should have been worrying over too.... like Kemal not being too far off. Kisha still didn’t really trust him and she had a feeling he’d attempt to get her into trouble. But since she hadn’t spotted him yet she could hardly curve any attempts he might currently be plotting.

“I should get going .”

Finally, the inevitable words... Jack nodded, accepting the facts as bravely as anyone with like amounts of rum in his system could be expected to. Actually, he wasn't taking the bad news as badly as he had expected to. Maybe Kisha had convinced him that she could take care of herself after all - or maybe he was more drunk than he thought.

“Don’t suppose a girl could convince you to walk her to port hmm?”

Jack grinned in response to Kisha's mischievous smile, which was one of his favourite Kisha features; certainly in the top three, he quickly decided. "A girl like you just might."
Jack looked at his bottle, thinking, and being grateful, in his own way, for this friendship; Kisha was one of the few people who seemed to know what he thought and felt, from time to time.
"Well then, far be it from me to keep you from your destination," he said at last, standing up. He grabbed the bottle (which was still not entirely empty), and offered Kisha his free arm. "Let's see this ship of yours."

Despite the slight ominous undertone in the final sentence, Jack wasn't planning to do anything but see Kisha off. He accepted her decision, but he liked the idea (false though it might be) that he was protecting Kisha, helping her; how else could he show that she meant something to him? And even apart from all that, Jack thought that a walk and some fresh air would be good for him; it would rid him of all traces of pessimism. Feeling better already at the mere prospect of that happening, Jack cheerfully led Kisha to the door of the tavern.

Kisha took the arm offered her still smiling. She figured Jack would be a little stumbly, but when wasn’t he? She’d simply adapt her steps to accommodate this as she usually did. She decided that she had had exactly the right amount of rum herself. She wasn’t drunk, but she felt relaxed and it had mellowed her out just enough to actually talk through her issue. Finding Jack here had been a very lucky thing indeed.

Jack in tow she made towards the door, maneuvering them around the boisterous drunks of this particular Tortuga tavern. In the process she once again failed to notice Kemal. Her foot stung just slightly but it was ignored- as her feet often are. Still she would clean it again when she got back on the ship, just to be safe. She wasn’t quiet sure of what to say now that she did happen to have Jack with her. What was there to say really? She knew better than to pry into Jack’s business... though today not because it was against her usual policies. She knew it would be depressing, or at least that it could be. And that was no way to say goodbye.

“So you haven’t told me... is this place your favorite or am I just lucky?” That would do. If nothing else it would let her know where Jack haunted when he was in town... a good thing to know since odds were that she would be back here at some point. She asked just as they reached the door, where she had to shout a little less. The ‘fresh’ air greeted her in a pleasant manner. Everything was a little more pleasant now in fact. It felt good to know what she was doing. There wasn't a crisis now, just a new beginning.

Arm in arm, Kisha and Jack walked to the door. Jack thought it was funny that they were heading out to say their goodbyes in that fashion. Not a person watching them wouldn't get the wrong impression - in so far as such impressions were wrong in a place like Tortuga. That thought (and the related memories) amused Jack, and he was feeling better by the second.

“So you haven’t told me... is this place your favorite or am I just lucky?”

"Both, I imagine," said Jack, smiling. The air outside didn't sober him up as such, but it did make it easier for him to think. Ignoring the bursts of wild activity around them, he slowly led Kisha back to the harbour, wondering vaguely if he knew this ship she was enlisting on. He didn't recall hearing of any captain who would risk taking a woman aboard. Certainly most would avoid it, whether for superstitious or for practical reasons.

"There are other places, of course, but The Faithful Bride is indeed my tavern of choice, most of the time." Jack cocked his head a little as he looked at Kisha, wondering if there had been a purpose to her question. While unable to deduct one, his mind subconsciously drifted in the same direction as Kisha's. "If you're ever in town, and you see the Pearl in the harbour..."

Kisha had asked mostly out of passing curiosity. Luck it seemed had an odd way of causing the two of them to run into each other. At the same time, however, knowing where Jack frequented was a pleasant thought. With both of them roaming about the ocean luck would have a doubly difficult time of placing them in the same location. It couldn’t hurt to help it along from time to time.

Kisha didn’t see Jack much of course, but at the same time he was the closest thing to a friend that she had. They got each other, and that in itself was enough for Kisha. Of course there were ‘interesting’ memories between them but that was just business. Arm in arm now Kisha was sure there were assumptions along those lines that followed any glance at them, but with her history they hardly bothered her. Besides in a place like Tortuga assuming anything less would be strange.

"If you're ever in town, and you see the Pearl in the harbour..."

Kisha looked to Jack with a playful smirk “You know for as much as I’ve heard of that ship I’ve never seen it.”

Kemal knew they would be rowdy now, but shut up once they reach the boat. seeing the captain was far from a womanizer and even farther was the chances you would catch him in a whore house.

Fed up with waiting and tracking Kisha, and even more disturbed, by the alleged presence of the Pearl's Captain. Even more so, curious as to how some low life like Kisha would have run into him. Probably his whore. He thought to him self.

The last crew members climbed aboard. And Kemal shoved the long boat off. it was full, no room for him. or Kisha, so he would have to wait for it to come back. He pondered just swimming back and claiming Kisha ran away, but further though prompted him to say seeing how the captain would be far to upset for Kemal's emotionless nature to endure.

Of course... Since Kisha had lived in Port Royal until recently, that was hardly a surprise. But Jack, still comfortably intoxicated, didn't care about this unforgivable gap in Kisha's knowledge. He smiled.

"You'll know her when you see her."

Overly optimistic? Probably. But to Jack, his ship was special, and it seemed to make sense that everyone else would see that too.

Suddenly the buildings that had continually surrounded them were gone, replaced by ships and a trace of open horizon in the distance. The breeze was fresher here, and smelled wonderful compared to the town they'd just left. Kisha and Jack were approaching the docks now, and Jack, forgetting his claim that Kisha would easily recognise the Pearl by herself, darted a finger at his ship as soon as he spotted it.

"There she is," he said contently, feeling a strange sort of pride.

Jack kept his eyes on the ship for a while, noting how it moved on the low waves in the harbour. Then in his enthusiasm he suddenly got an idea, and he turned back to Kisha.

"I can show you around, if you want." It wasn't a business proposition as such, though Jack wouldn't have minded if anything would happen. His main purpose, however, was to show off his ship. Jack cared a lot about the Pearl, and she made him happy; somehow it felt like showing Kisha the Pearl would make her happy as well. "Just how big is your hurry to get back to your ship?"

Kisha simply smiled. As Jack pointed it out for her her dark eyes moved in the pointed direction and then back to Jack.

"There she is,"

She couldn’t help but notice his pride. Jack looked at that ship in a way that Kisha was all too familiar with. It was a loving ‘that’s mine’ sort of thing- something men gave to their lovers and children, and craftsmen to something special. Kisha had never had such a feeling for anything or anyone in that way. But what’s to say that trapsing her through a gypsy camp wouldn’t bring about the same look in her? Kisha understood it, or at the very least the concept of it. That ship was important in more ways than in just being a boat. Jack loved it, and how much so was right there in his face.

"I can show you around, if you want. Just how big is your hurry to get back to your ship?"

Kisha looked to Jack with playfull warmth. She knew it wasn’t a ‘proposition’. Jack was a boy who wanted to show off his most prized thing. It wasn't surprising to her at all that the Pearl held that place in Jack's heart and likewise she wasn't shocked when he offered to show it to her. "Not big enough to let me leave without the grand tour." Kisha did want to get back soon, but she also was putting off their parting. Besides, she was honestly interested in seeing Jack's ship. It was important to him and in a way revealing. Just as she had shared her cards and charms back in Port Royal perhaps the Pearl held secrets that were Jack's. At the very least he'd be excited about it and Kisha didn't have the heart to turn him down. She'd stop to see the Pearl but then, she reminded herself, she was leaving.

Jack grinned. "Wonderful!" He turned from Kisha towards the docks, took an enthusiastic step, and almost tripped over his own foot. He straightened himself quickly, glancing sideways to make sure no one except Kisha had noticed him. Satisfied by the fact that no one was laughing, he continued on his way after giving Kisha a little smile that would have been apologetic, if it had been sincere.

Jack looked around for the boat that was still supposed to be waiting for him, or actually, more specifically, for the two men he had left in charge of it. He had made it two on purpose, he vaguely remembered; that way one man was unofficially free to get rum and even women to the boat, if the men really couldn't restrain themselves, and the boat would remain guarded even when temptation was large. Jack was just beginning to get annoyed that the men had still not followed his orders when he heard a strange and unsettling sound from a little behind him, just over the side of the dock. Letting go of Kisha's arm, Jack stepped to the edge and peered down. There was one of the men, sure enough, snoring loudly, two empty bottles beside him in the boat. The other man had apparently disappeared.

"Oy! You!" shouted Jack, precariously leaning down to prod the man with the tip of his boot. But the man only took a deep breath and then resumed his peaceful snoring. Jack's nose wrinkled, but there was little more he could do; he'd have to row the boat himself, with the man dead weight in it. He'd have to ask Gibbs whether the man could swim, and, if he could, order him thrown overboard to wake him up.
