The first time that Jack Sparrow had been scheduled to be hung, Catrina had decided that it wasn't worth the time to travel from her Hacienda into town to witness such an event. Infamous pirate or no, she did have things she had to do, and she'd already wasted a day in attendance of Norrington's promotion ceremony. Of course, in retrospect, she was pleased to have not been in town for the attack during the night, nor for the chaotic mess that was the clean up effort later. They didn't even hold the hanging as Sparrow had escaped that day. Official word was that he had been let free by the pirates who attacked, but rumour had it that he had been let free after the pirate attack--that it was a terrible breach for him to escape later. She couldn't blame the authorities if they were covering up that bit, it was a bit embarrassing for them. But when everything was sorted, and it was announced that Sparrow had been recovered, Catrina figured that if she was being given this second chance to see him hung, there was no reason to pass it up. She headed into town and stood within the crowd surrounding the gallows. It was rather exciting, to see the infamous Sparrow that close up, and to be swept along by the emotions of the crowd. Before Sparrow was lead out and the noose laid around his neck, several parts of the group started a bloodthirsty chant, their lust for death only satiated when the doomed man was walked out to hang. She was bumped a couple of time by members of the crowd trying to get a better look at the pirate, and she tramped down a flash of irritation at that. She was short enough that they should have no problem seeing him over her. They had just finished reading the charges when there was a disturbence from behind her, and she felt herself shoved to the side as a tall man in a red cloak pushed his way towards the platform. "Oy! Watch it!" she yelled after him, and he made his way to the gallows, and then proceeded to charge it, and impede the executioner from completing his duty. She and the crowd started to shift before she was once again shoved aside by a crowd of blue and red coats. Someone came flying off of the platform, and Catrina felt grateful that she was no longer standing where she was for the man took down several of the men who had displaced them just moments earlier. As several moved to aid the fallen Navy men and Marines, Catrina reached down to cop a quick feel of one of the marines, who looked quite young and took to blushing furiously. As they rushed off to follow the action, the crowd surged after, held back by Marines from interfering any more with what was going on. She wanted to push forward to see what was going on, as a well dressed civilian, must be the governor, moved forward with a younger woman to address what was going on. She wished she could hear what verbal exchange was going on, but they were too far away. They were quickly ushered out, brought out of the fort, and left onto the streets. She wondered if Sparrow escaped, but as she looked out to the sea, she could see a black ship sailing towards the horizon. It looked like this Sparrow wouldn't die in captivity after all. |
